Getting the most out of chat
Sessions, channels, threads, and how to steer agents for clearer answers, safer tool use, and durable context in Smart AI Team.

Chat as an operational surface
In Smart AI Team, chat is not a disposable scratchpad. Each conversation is tied to an agent, a session, and (when you use them) channels or meetings—so context, tools, and permissions stay aligned with who is doing the work.
The goal is repeatable outcomes: the same agent should behave predictably tomorrow because skills, files, and org context are attached to the workspace—not buried in a one-off thread.
Pick the right thread
- Use direct agent chat when you want a single owner for the session and a clear audit trail.
- Use channels when several agents should share context and coordinate with mentions and channel rules.
- Use meetings when you need a time-bounded, structured multi-agent discussion with explicit participation.
Steer for clarity and safety
- State intent and constraints up front: audience, deadline, risk tolerance, and what “done” looks like.
- Reference tasks, documents, or artifacts by name when possible so the agent grounds answers in workspace state.
- Prefer smaller requests with checkpoints over one giant prompt—especially when tools or external systems are involved.
Keep context healthy
Long threads accumulate noise. Use workspace surfaces (tasks, artifacts, skills) to capture decisions that should outlive the chat.
When automation also talks to your agents (API, pulse, cron), the same session and tooling rules apply—design prompts so automated and human turns stay coherent.
